Brief Information Program

Bachelor of Science and Food Technology (BSTM) with Honours Program has been offered by the Faculty of Food Science and Technology since 1976 to produce graduates who can meet the needs of national talent in food science and technology either in the public, private or self-employed sectors.

The program will produce graduates who are knowledgeable , skilled and viable in the performance of work for a variety of employment sectors involved in food production and processing , food quality control , product development , research and management . Graduates with expertise in the field of Food Science and Technology is also capable of carrying out the activities of downstream industries and modern commercial agriculture in line with the needs and developments.

Course content formulated in line with the latest developments in food technology that involves the use of knowledge as food biotechnology , international legal standards and water and waste management industries . Program also produce graduates who are able to fulfill the expectations of the job market, aspirations, versatile and have a competitive advantage . This will catalyze the development of the food industry through participation in graduate BSTM
jobs sector .

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Bachelor of Food Science and Technology (BSTM) with Honours has many employment opportunities either in the private or public sector . Among his career as an analyst of food, food safety officers , research officers , enforcement officers for halal food production personnel , food marketing officer , chief executive of the research and development of food products and entrepreneurs.

In addition, there is also a graduate BSTM serving in the food manufacturing factories such as Nestle , Ajinomoto , UPALI, Dewina Foods, Yeo Hiap Seng , Gardenia , Ramly Burger as well as companies involved in the production and food service like Mc Donalds and KFC . There is also a BSTM graduates serving in the public sector such as the Ministry of Health as a food technologist and as a research officer at MARDI , PORIM , LKIM and LKM.

General University Requirements

Minimum Qualifications of Candidates for Malaysian Student Certificate (STPM)

a. Have a Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) with honors in Bahasa Malaysia/Malay and passed in History from 2013. Honors in Bahasa Malaysia/Malay in the July paper are taken into account; AND

b. Have a Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) with at least a GPA of 2.00 with Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in three (3) subjects including General Studies; AND

c. Get at least Level 1 (Band 1) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) according to the validity period. Malaysian University English Test (MUET).

Minimum Qualification of Matriculation / Foundation Candidates

a. Have a Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) with honors in Bahasa Malaysia/Malay and passed in History from 2013. Honors in Bahasa Malaysia/Malay in the July paper are taken into account; AND

b. Have a UPM Agricultural Science Foundation/KPM Matriculation/UM Science Foundation/UiTM Foundation with at least a GPA of 2.00; AND

c. Get at least Level 1 (Band 1) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) according to the validity period. Malaysian University English Test (MUET).

Candidate Minimum Qualification Diploma / Equivalent

a. Have a Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) with honors in Bahasa Malaysia/Malay and passed in History from 2013. Honors in Bahasa Malaysia/Malay in the July paper are taken into account; AND

b. Have a UA/Polytechnic/IPTS Diploma, Malaysian Skills Diploma (DKM), Malaysian Advanced Skills Diploma (DLKM) or other qualifications recognized as equivalent by the Malaysian Government and approved by the University Senate; or

c. Have STPM in 2019 and before with at least CGPA 2.00 with Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in three (3) subjects including General Studies; or

d. Have Matriculation/Foundation in 2019 and before with a GPA of at least 2.00; or

e. Graduate of Malaysian Sports School/GCE ALevel/International Baccalaureate Diploma/Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) and other qualifications recognized as equivalent by the Malaysian Government and approved by the University Senate; AND

f. Get at least Level 1 (Band 1) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) according to the validity period.

Program Special Requirements

Malaysian Higher Certificate of Education (STPM) candidates

a. Meet the University's General Requirements as well as the Program's Special Requirements, i.e. obtain at least Grade C+ (NGMP 2.33) in chemistry subjects at the STPM level; AND

b. Get at least Level 3 (Band 3) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET).

Candidates for Matriculation / Foundation

a. Meet the University's General Requirements as well as the Program's Special Requirements, i.e. obtain at least Grade C+ (NGMP 2.33) in chemistry subjects at the Matriculation / Foundation level; AND

b. Get at least Level 3 (Band 3) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET).

Equivalently Qualified Candidates

a. Meet the General University requirements as well as the Special Program Requirements, i.e. having a Diploma in a suitable field or other qualifications recognized by the UPM Senate; AND

b. Get at least Level 3 (Band 3) in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET).

International Candidates

A certificate equivalent to STPM or a diploma recognized by the Malaysian government is subject to the decision of the UPM Senate.
